Non lactating mastitis/abscess

Wednesday morning I found a red raised sore lump just on the edge of my areola. About the size of a 20p. It’s quite tender. Called GP got seen that day and she said it’s the above. She’s given me two different types of antibiotics for 10 days. Just wondering if anyone has had this before? Tablets are making me groggy and sleepy. It hasn’t reduced in size yet but suppose need to give it time. She said to call back if it gets worse or when finished doesn’t go.

To ease the soreness I know it sounds ridiculous but freeze several cabbage leaves then pop one inside your bra, it will soothe for a little while.

Just to add I had this many years ago and felt very unwell, it was after having my first born, I was given antibiotics and after a few days I was still really sore and still unwell but thought I was getting better, I left it a couple more days before going back to the GP and got told off for not going back sooner, i then needed to have it lanced, I'm not trying to scare you but to advise that if you still feel the same in a few days please let the GP know.

Thank you. What does lancing involve? I know sometimes that’s an option. I’m just hoping the antibiotics work.

Maybe biro round the edge of the red area, then if it spreads outside that area you'll know you need to go back to doc as the infection could be spreading. Hope its better soon
