Very unlikely. I work in insurance and you would need special insurance for this cover. Timeshare points have no value, just like Tesco Clubcard points

I queried this with our insurance last year as we had rented points and was told we were covered. We rented through David’s rather than direct so don’t know if that made a difference.

If David’s have provided you with accommodation rather than just handing you points then that could be covered. It’s usually the points that are not insured

If you paid someone to rent their points then your travel insurance should cover the costs as you have not used any points but bought accommodation from someone just like you would if you paid any other hotel/company for a room. Its the owners that are usually not covered for using points.
No need to even mention points when making an insurance claim as you haven't used any.

Thank you for everyone’s response and sorry for the delay in update. Positive news that we have been fully refunded, massive sigh of relief.

Could you please say which company it was you rented through? We rented via DVC rental store and have just cancelled for May. The agent is trying to resell the points to be able to provide a refund.

As a renter this so hard, I’ve rented to couple of Dibbers and have lost the March points as I had missed the banking window although this is under review by DVC, I will try my upmost to sell them on to give people the money back, I wish we could come up with a contract to enable insurance to pay back
