Quebec 2016 - On y va LIVE - Day 17 - Exploring La Tuque
We woke up to sunshine - hurray. I made a pancake batter while DH cooked them. No baking powder so they had to be British type ones! We headed out to le parc de chutes at Le Tuque which is the nearest town - about 15km away. It seems to be the only town for hundreds of kilometers! The parc was free to enter. They had various exhibitions dotted around - we like the moose on the first one. The chutes were another waterfall - there was a pathway leading to it and then wooden stairs which ran alongside it! I love the noise a waterfall makes. We climbed the tower - made from local wood. And were rewarded with spectacular views. We stayed up here for about 30 minutes before heading down to an exhibition on logging. This was(is?) the main industry in the region for many years. It was fascinating to see how they used the river to transport the logs down b This is in La Tuque. The big sand coloured mountain you can see is sawdust. We had lunch out. A delicious garlic bread to share. Then I had pizza - which came with chips I think we waddled out! The three times a week train pulled into the station. Next stop is Senneterre - an 8 hour drive north. Lots of people were waiting to board it. After a rest, we went into the river (even me!) The kids and DH used the rubber rings to float down the rapids. I was not so brave. Afterwards we tried out the hot tube which was relaxing! After dinner we went to look at this bridge - one of two in the region built in 1946. Then we did the Bird Walk - we saw a woodpecker and some American robins. We loved the ready to go ice rink. Lots if the towns seem to have these. A relaxing evening back at the house. I am tired so an early night I think.

It was The scenery is so very lovely and peaceful!
We don't eat out much it has to be said - I don't mind cooking though and it is mainly easy things! This trippie should have been called messing about in water I know this sort of holiday isn't to everyone's taste but just not having a timetable is so nice! I haven't seen that film! The bridges are very quirky here it has to be said. Thanks to everyone for reading

Oh, this looks right up DS' street - something tall to climb, and then rapids!
Really enjoying your report... |

The tower was definitely worth climbing.
And what a luxury to be able to ride the rapids by your house whenever you want. ...Well, some parts of the year! The ready-to-be-filled ice rink is fascinating. Such a different way of life.
