I was told a massive crack appeared in the structure of the car park and it had to be urgently closed, as soon as it is sorted it should re-open, The official Gatwick Valet parking is also closed.

From the Mid Sussex Times:

"Gatwick Airport has apologised after complaints were made about traffic ‘chaos’ caused by the closing of a car park.

The airport has been forced to close Car Park 6 in the North Terminal while ‘essential maintenance’ work is carried out.

The car park is one of only two short stay car parks on the North side of the airport.

John Willson, who works at the airport, said the traffic problems have become ‘disgraceful’ since the car park was closed.

He said: “I work at Gatwick Airport and it is absolute chaos down there at the moment.”

He added: “It is causing congestion and chaos for the public and the queues are horrendous because you have to wait for someone to come out before you can come in.

“It is absolutely disgraceful.”

A spokesperson for Gatwick confirmed repairs were needed and apologised for any inconvenience.

The spokesperson said: “Gatwick’s Short Stay Car Park 6 in the North Terminal is currently closed to allow some essential maintenance to take place.

“While it is closed, we are advising passengers to use the alternative Short Stay Car Park 5 or any of our alternative parking options (for example Short-Stay parking in South Terminal, only a short-ride away on our inter-terminal shuttle).

“We apologise to anyone who has been inconvenienced by this. We are currently assessing the work required and will be able to update in due course.”
