Getting confused about my car hire

Hello all,

I booked our car hire August 2016 through Alamo Brits, standard car (Chrysler 200 or similar) £226 for 11 days (which I think is pretty good). Anyway, I'd ticked the pay on pick-up option, which I'm now worried wasn't a good idea as the exchange rate back in august was better than what it is now! Am I right in thinking that if I pay on pick-up I'll be paying in $ rather than £?

The other option I think is that I go into my existing booking, see if I can make an amendment then hopefully it'll come up with a pay now option?!

Yes you will be charged at the rate on the day you pick up.
We always pay before we go it's cheaper, it's out of the way and we know how much we will be paying. If the price drops we can amend for a refund. we can't loose.
The problem now is Alamo prices have shot up because of the weak pound so you may still loose out if you rebook,
Try doing a dummy booking.

You will pay in dollars but at the equivalent sterling price it was at the time you booked. The falling pound is irrelevant at the agreed price is the sterling cost.

Say you booked at £226 which at the time equated to $316.40 with exchange rate being 1.4. If when you pick up, the exchange rate is 1.22, you would pay $275.72.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your replies. Just done a dummy booking with Alamo Brits based on paying now and a standard is coming in at £225, so maybe I'll just go ahead and then cancel the other reservation
