Mmm. Thats the downside with them, total rip off. My understanding is the transponder takes precedence over the photo by plate system. Not 100% sure though

Sun pass transponder does take precedence. Sends out a signal so that a plate photograph isn't taken. Keep your account information handy, if you're charged accidentally the sunpass folk will remove the charge. Be aware though it can take 24hrs before the sunpass account is oppertional.

Thanks Mr Tom. To be fair they were £300 cheaper for a 6 seat SUV for 3 weeks over Easter than Alamo so that was the reason we booked with them, just don't want to get stuck with their hefty toll bill if I can help it.

I thought that the sun pass transponder would take precedence once signed up on line ?
Any help gratefully received.
Sorry only just read this but it looks like Mr Tom and ILHO have answered your query.

You can purchase a transponder before you go from fleabay, you will pay a little more for it and the delivery rates are extortionate.

But As ILHO has pointed out it can take upto 24hrs for your account to be active.
Buying before you go would allow you to set the account up this would just leave you to add a vehicle on arrival

Sorry not been for a few years, can't you just pay cash at tolls anymore?

Dont worry, yes you can. However in certain areas such as around Miami there are no cash lanes.
Everything is done by a transponder (mainly residents). Or photos of the tag (mainly visitors).
In a rental car you can pay cash or let the rental company get billed, then they bill your credit card plus an admin fee - it can be expensive with some companies, but not all.
