Landing late evening at LAX?
Looking at flights coming back from Honolulu and because of the flight length and time difference, we can either fly really early and land at tea time, or get an early afternoon flight and land at 11pm LA time. Not bothered about feeling tired, but would you land that late and then have to get a car rental and drive to our Universal hotel late at night? Bit nervous about driving round LA late at night or am I being silly?

We land at 7.30pm so by the time we are through security it could be 9pm, so we've decided to stay in a cheap Best Western near LAX and drive upto Universal at 7-8am the next morning when it's light and we're more refreshed.

We've already booked the hotel and only there 3 nights so ideally not keen on staying somewhere else. It's not a long drive - about 40 mins I think but it's the late night part I'm not sure of!

Yep wouldn't bother us at all.. We would much rather drive to where we wanted to be that first night than waste time the next morning.
This year I'm landing in LA about 3pm and we are driving straight to Vegas don't expect to be there early but its better than doing it the next morning and wasting time. Plus for you traffic will be a lot lighter at 11pm than it will the next morning. |

Yes keen to avoid the LA traffic! Might go for a later flight then, I assume car rentals are 24hr? It'll be 11pm LA time when we land but only 8pm our time so won't be tired

Go with the later flight as it will knock up to 30 minutes off the drive.
Car rentals are 24 hour and are off site in LAX, so you have to get a bus to them. Don't remember any being on site but could be wrong. |

Thanks for the advice DB, do you greatly think it would be better to drive upto burbank at 8.30/9pm? We've already paid for the hotel at LAX and was initially worried about hubby driving up in the dark but worried about the morning traffic now.

traffic will be less in the evening but sometimes we find the lack of street lighting a problem
