Flea Markets

Can anyone please educate me as to what flea markets are and what they sell? Ive been given a few leaftets from a friend whos just back and there sems to be a few flea markets dotted around and wondered if it was worth having a wander round them? Also having been to a few outdoor markets both here and abroad i know the security is not too good would this be the case at a flea market?

Thanks in advance

There are a few flea markets on the 192 and basically they sell cheap suitcases, towels, t shirts, watches, sunglasses, miracle creams for any type of skin (yeah right), grotty ornaments and cheesy souveniers. Saying that... we always stop in one... "just incase"! They are not very cheap usually and you can get better bargains in the malls especially if there are sales on. They are housed in big sheds.

Last year we went to a "flea market" near Haines City which was more like a car boot sale. This was far more interesting to look around as we could see the junk that people thought was saleable - just like our car boot sales at home. There was country music everywhere!

Here's a pic... it was very cold! (Dmil and Dn!)

The flea markets may not be everyone's cup of tea but we loved the ones on the 192. T.shirts, "designer" sunglasses,Jewellry and Avon off the shelf are some of the things we bought at a fraction of the cost we would normally pay. They can be a bit tacky but there are some good bargains to be had if you've got time to have a good look around.

We always make a visit to fleaworld when we are in florida, makes a change from the usual park days. It takes us about 3 hours to get round the whole site. if you want a day away from the tourist traps then fleaworld at sanford may be of interest to you.

The last time we were there and needed 2 suitcases to bring all our purchases home we bought them at the Flea Market on 192.I think they were about $20 each and huge.We are using them again this year.
As said before there is a lot of tacky stuff that you just don't bother looking at but also the occasional stall with good bargains.

Cheers
Mel
