RUMOUR: Guardians of the Galaxy to replace Ellen & Potential updates to Mission:SPACE & Innoventions

According to insiders on WDWMagic, Guardians of the Galaxy will no longer be replacing Tower of Terror, but will instead be replacing Ellen's Energy Adventure in Future World at Epcot, with a possible Phase 2 replacing the Wonders of Life Pavilion.

It is also being said that Mission: SPACE should eventually be updated, and Innoventions/Communicore should be updated/overhauled as well.

It is supposed to be replacing Tower of Terror in California's Adventure, and was supposed to be going to Hollywood Studios, but is now apparently going to Epcot instead.

The Tower of Terror at HS is one of the attractions that should absolutely NOT be touched in any shape or form. It is perfect as it is thank you very much!

I don't see Ellen getting replaced by Guardians.

Universal have the rights to the Avengers, and associated characters in that "family". As of 2018, the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear alongside the Avengers in one of the new Marvel movies, making those characters in some way associated. I'm not 100% on the details, but I don't think Disney could keep the attraction past the date of the movie's release.

This whole marvel deal has me very confused. I wonder how long it'll be before Disney can use any marvel themed rides, it's a huge gap in their market

I thought Universal had the rights to use marvel in its cartoon form but Disney own the movie rights, so surely as long as its likenesses from the movies they could use Guardians? Its so confusing!

It would be odd to have marvel rides in both Disney and Universal though and I really do hope tower of terror stays the way it is.

Universal doesn't have the rights to GOTG characters so Disney can use them where they like. Its about the only ones that are popular that Disney can use east of the Mississippi.

As to adding to ToT is was just an overlay, the ride would have still been basically the same.

I 100% agree with you, I think the issue is regarding licensing for 'The Twilight Zone' coming to the end of its term. I guess its questionable how relevant / prominent the Twilight Zone brand is these days.
