Dh does, he runs straight in the freezing Cold water and we have a paddle, it’s not as nice as Florida or the Med. Last year Kefalonia was like a warm bath, I would love to be at West Wittering today with the doggy.

I always like to swim in the sea at least once a year, but only on beaches near Sandbanks or Bournemouth. The water there looks really clean and there's nothing floating in it. I won't go in the sea until it's had a chance to warm up, usually August.
I love the Isle of Wight, but I don't like going in the sea there because there's normally lots of seaweed. For me the sea has to at least look clean and clear.

I love swimming in the sea in the UK.
Have braved the icy cold as far North as Portrush in NI, Aberdeen and Stonehaven in NE Scotland, North Berwick and Gullane in Mid Scotland, Brighouse Bay in SE Scotland. Never did the Loony Dook, one for the bucket list. Had some astonished looks when I walked across Scarborough beach in October to go for a dip. South Coast can be lovely. Have fond memories of swimming out through the arches at Lulworth and back via the open gap. Surfing in Perranporth, taste of salt on the lips followed by a cold pint of Healey's cider. Love the sea. Shame we live literally as far from the sea as is possible in the UK! |

Waulkmill bay on Orkney is as good as it gets in the UK
Long shallowly sloping, clean golden sands, a little of that gulf stream warming of the water. A hot day when the sun has been on the sand all afternoon... Glorious for swimming. |

We are 10 miles from the sea. It also just happens to be where the busiest container port in the UK is situated. There is constant traffic of rather large container ships about and the water is not very good.
An awful colour. Wouldn't paddle let alone swim. If I could swim of course

If only I lived near the sea - I’d be there every day
I’m an all year open water swimmer - usually in a wetsuit but with the temps over the last few days would swim in just my costume I get a feel good buzz from it
