White vinegar is also meant to help break down any remaining soap residue left in the towels

Vanish or nappy san in the powder drawer with some Daz, 60c wash and Dettol laundry liquid

Apologies to those who love Zoflora I would only use it on bins ... goes off to sniff some ACE bleach

40 degree wash, a small amount of fabric conditioner & if I can line dry. Then into the tumble dryer for 20 mins to soften them. I hate tumbling them from wet, just don't smell or feel the same

Friend repairs white goods, his advice, don't use Calgon, it's over priced and he doesn't rate it. Once every 6 months put 1kg of soda crystal's in your washer, using the hottest setting let the machine have at it

I found a far cheaper version of Zoflora at Savers, leaves my towels smelling canny

I don't know why but I always imagined you would have soft water up there Chris. We have terribly hard water here, I can't imagine not using Calgon or similar. My machine is 12 years old and still going strong (unfortunately because I would like a new one).

I have a water softer nestle I would definitely use calgon in London - apart from being proved to make machines last longer (works in same was at my softer) it means you use a fraction of detergent so its a save save situation

I do mine on a 30 degree wash, can't be bothered waiting a few hours for a wash to finish, they're not dirty anyway, I always use conditioner and line dry when I can, my towels are still soft but not that super fluffy soft that don't really dry you. 😳😁Ohhh and these days I get more than one day out of them, we hang them up when we're finished, when my boys were at home, it would be a mountain of towels a day we'd go through.

Wash 30, 40 or 60 degrees and I've always used fabric conditioner and into the tumble dryer. They're always lovely and I've never noticed any problems with absorbance.

you've reminded me that I need to do this!

Will add soda crystals to my shopping list this week.
