BA Seat Booking

Hi folks,

Not really wanting to pay BA for booking seats unless, I really have to! Has anyone left it to check in 24 hours before and then grabbed seats? Just wondering what previous experience has been when trying to book seats together when doing it that way.

Not sure if you have children under 12 but we were allocated seats together (my DH offered to sit on his own ) a few days before departure (and likewise on return) as we have DD 8. On the return flight on Monday a couple hadn't booked seats but BA did their best to sit them together and they were.

We have never paid for seat reservations and have always sat together either 1x4, 2x2 or 3+1 (this is on BA, Virgin and AA for the last 4 years).

I don't blame you. Ridiculous added cost, especially with a sliding scale of selection fees.

With children you stand a decent chance of a result, with seats allocated to you between 7 and 3 days before departure.

Without children, its far less hopeful if a busy flight, since you'll be left with whatever hasn't been allocated to families or paid for.

I cant justify the cost of BA seat bookings We are a family of 4 with 2 teens and we have always been allocated seats together, on full flights during school holidays. You take a chance of being split, but its a risk I am willing to take and we have never had an issue

We travelled with BA to Tampa this summer and is the first year we haven't had an under 12 as DS birthday was in June. When we went to check in we had already been allocated seats together but could change them for the few seats around. I really panicked on the way home as when I looked at the seat map on the morning of checkin day there were only 4 left that were spread around the aircraft. I needn't have panicked as when I checked in that evening I had seats all together. I think as the flight was nearly full the airport had allocated seats to everyone, unfortunately it is a gamble when traveling with over 12's.

Touch wood, we've always been lucky and been sat together with BA, there are only 2 of us. I do find the extra cost to choose a seat too expensive and if we ever end up sitting apart then I'll just have to accept that because I'm not prepared to by the extra.

If you have children then at a minimum 1 child will be sat next to 1 adult (parent / guardian). However, if you have two kids it's possible the other child and adult can be sat elsewhere in the cabin.

Most airlines are now offering reserve your seat for a fee in advance. This is to give you a choice. They could just as easily up the price of their tickets all round.
