Smart TV’s

Just been looking online, but all the ones I can see seem to have Alexa or similar built in, I absolutely don’t want Alexa, does anyone know if it can be disabled on a TV?

Yes just don't connect it in the first place. In order for Alexa to work it needs to connect.

Thank you, I know nothing about Alexa and how it works, so when you say don’t connect it do you mean it comes with a cable or will it be an app on the TV, again sorry for asking daft questions 😀😀😀

Glad you have posted this as we are going to buy a new TV soon. I don’t want Alexa either and didn’t know it’s built in.

Then buy a dumb TV. If you don't connect it, none of the apps and online features work on it.

You can most likely disable it, but nearly all smart TV's have some form of assistant built into them in order to make them smart.

Is it just Alexa you are concerned about, or any smart assistant?

Many say works with Alexa. What that means is that there is you can use Alexa (if you have their devices or the app on your phone) to control the TV via those devices. In those cases if you don't have Alexa devices then it doesn't have Alexa as such.

Which TV are you looking at?

You can disable Alexa specifically. On most TV's the Alexa functionality is a button on the remote where you talk to the TV. Just don't use it. That what I mean by connecting to it.

Just don't set that functionality up (it requires you to log in with an Amazon account so simply don't).

See what you meant now.

Very few TV's have Alexa built in that way. It is usually their own system for that. The majority of them have integration with Alexa so you can use an Alexa system to communicate with the TV.

Very different and if you don't own any Alexa systems there is nothing to switch off.

For the ones that are Alexa as the assistant then you may well be able to switch it off. But that's no different to a Samsung TV using its Bixby service, Android TV's using Google assistant.

I don't think we are disagreeing. In short there is no problem for the OP to buy a TV with Alexa built in. She doesn't need to use it.
