i was aware of the Post Office option its OK but my other problem is that to open any sort of account even a saving account they have insisted in the past couple of years of me having to go to a branch to prove who I am, even though I went to school with the manager!

We used to open accounts in 5 mins at the counter. Problem is that there was rarely any ID required (I’m talking the 1980s). Move on 5/10 years and we had customers who had banked with us for decades, many elderly without passports or driving licences, suddenly being asked to provide at least 2 acceptable forms of ID. Accounts were closed if they could not produce this. Staff knowing who someone was no longer sufficient, the internet has a lot to answer for 😭

I’ve just seen your post. I was going to have my own moan about banks today. 3 of my nearest branches have closed over the last few years (Barclays) and I found out today that the branch in the nearest “biggest” town now only opens 9:30-4:30 Mon, Wed, Thurs and Friday. It’s as if they don’t want working people to use their services.🤷🏼 I just wanted to deposit cash - which I found out today I can do at the post office. Big thumbs up for them- not so much the bank. I even went on online chat and they told me to drive to a branch over 90 minutes away! Why they didn’t just say to me that I could deposit cash at the post office, I have no idea.🤦🏼

After losing multiple bank branches in our local area, hubby and I moved everything to one local building society, who have multiple branches in our semi rural area. We have current accounts, savings accounts and business accounts with them, as well as our mortgage. Excellent customer service, competitive rates and online banking. Never regretted it for a second.

Banks are really getting on my nerves during this pandemic! Closing on a Saturday because it’s ‘not safe’... mm but it’s safe to be open Monday to Friday school hours? My partner is self employed and can only get to a bank on a Saturday to deposit money, since Nat West have reopened on a Saturday, they don’t deal with cash? So he couldn’t put any cash in his business account! And then we have the call centres all using covid as an excuse for their lack of services! Where I work (not a bank) managed to get all the call centre staff set up from home within two weeks of lockdown, why can’t banks sort it out!

Must admit since Barclays changed to been able to photograph cheques and pay them in that way I’ve had no need to visit a bank at all . I’m quite surprised all banks don’t do that by now.
