Hurricane Irma

Watching cnn now, one thing that shocked me is how slow the hurricane moves. With the strong winds, I just expected it to move fast.

DD is all prepared as much as she can be. Selfishly hoping it goes even more west. Clearly where ever it goes will be devastating and I feel for everyone affected, but obviously I'm more worried about my daughter before everyone else.

Agreed, but neither is comparing Orlando with the UK's weather. Unless you want to cite things like the Great Storm in 87 etc.

There is more to Florida than Orlando. There many people on the west coast.
And at the minute comparing what had happened in the keys may well be a very good comparison as at the time (when it is maybe 60 miles away), the distance from the eye might be similar to the distance to Orlando when the storm gets to Tampa.

Just be careful, there are quite a few sad individuals posting fake videos of past footage and claiming it to be Irma.

Why people do such things I'll never understand.

Update for Davenport as of 5.30 am 10.09

It is still very calm outside no winds.
It is raining but nothing unusual for this time of the year actually it is not as heavy as normal.

Have been reading following the posts regarding hurricane Irma, it is a really frightening and stressful time time for all who are out there caught up in this. Hope you all stay safe where ever you are. It is really heart warming to see all the very generous posts from amazing dibbers offering shelter and support to others. Makes you feel proud to a member of such a supportive group.

25 hours before our flight to Orlando is due to leave and BA have not cancelled it yet. Whilst that could be a good thing, our next concern would be even if the flight does go ahead, if Disney are in lockdown will there be a Magical Express service to get us to our resort? And if not, where will that leave us?

These guys are apparently in Islamorada. Outside live streaming it.

Supposedly the only key west camera is Irish Kevin's bar, but a car drove past and the camera focused on the lens at the moment so you can't really see anything.

I think at this stage unfortunately all you can really do os was and see. You can be sure that there are contingency plans in place. These are huge businesses and they will want to be up and running asap (taking cash). So you can be sure they will be doing everything they can.
