Actually getting on the Dwarf's mine train

The last two visits (2019 and 2017) we've found it really difficult (eg queues over 2 hours) to get on the 7DMT. We're also never seeing it on FP+

Can anyone shine a mining lamp on this?

Thanks!

It’s a popular ride. Your best bet without a FP would be arriving early but if you really want to ride with minimal queuing then I would book a pre park opening breakfast at Be Our Guest. That will get you in the queue before the park opens.

Late at night when the fire works are on the queue can drop dramatically

Agree with both without FP+ head straight at rope drop or book pre park BOG breakfast.
OR late at night during fireworks.
Also if it rains go there as well. Good luck

We've only ever ridden it with FPs or late at night when there are likely to be fewer little people still awake!

We are here at the moment and have managed to bag two fastpasses for it for 5 people while in the park. It’s just a case of keep trying.

Do you stay onsite? 60 day FPs it should show up for you if booking when your window opens. If you know you want to prioritize that ride FP, go right for that first when booking FPs window opens, and then fill in your blanks. To do that though, have park possible plans laid out on paper and an idea of what hours you're willing to take, try not to be too particular because they may not be available, and try not to be going back in and out of the My Disney Experience deciding on times as it may be while you can't decide, others also are quick to get what they see available. Having a general idea of morning or afternoon or both, for example working for you, you can just click on it as soon as you see something that seems like it'll work and fill in the other rides after you get the SDMT FP.

Outside of that at 30 day booking, obviously much less chance. But, could keep looking, and check day of. Besides that, we've never tried to rope drop it, but if you do rope drop at park opening, pay attention first if MK is having early hours that day or not, or if it's a morning with the separately ticketed and paid for EMM, because if you go at say 9 am and it's an early park opening day for onsite guests, that's already a drawback.

We have seen a shorter line late at night.

Agree with the late night option. If you are in the queue before closing time you will ride. The wait time never seems to be as long as advertised. This has always been our strategy - in almost 30 years have never seen rope drop!

During regular park hours, I have only got on 7DMT with a fast pass booked at 60+ days out. I am constantly looking for the next fastpass whilst I am in the parks and have literally never seen one for 7DMT.

If you are not onsite, I think your chances of getting a fastpass are remote. In order to get on, I would try the pre park opening breakfast or consider one of the events such as After Hours or Early Morning Magic.
