Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Smoky mountains - Williamsburg - Washington DC - New York) Day 17

Day 17 - Sunday 16th April 2017

Early start again with a 6.30 wake up to the noise of the passing trains. Lovely waffles for breakfast from the hotel offerings.

Today was Easter Sunday and so I wanted us to go to church. We go to a Baptist church at home so this was where my research started, and Calvary Baptist church was chosen.

They were very welcoming, we even got a bag with a welcome mug and crochet cross inside. The service was a lot more formal than we were used to!

We then headed over to Central Park and by now it was boiling at 29 degrees

First stop was the play park but she didn't last more than 15 minutes before she was sweltering. They have a splash/sprinkler area here but it doesn't activate until the summer

We decided to have dinner at lunchtime and made our way to Boston Market as I fancied a Sunday 'roast' dinner (plus it was Easter so I knew restaurants would be rammed). The food was adequate, I had a coupon and the bill for the 3 of us was $25 with Georgia having an adult meal instead of a kids one so the value for money wasn't bad. My meal looked something like this...

The sun had calmed down by now and as we walked back to the park the clouds were becoming dark.

Georgia insisted on putting her feet in the fountain even though the water was filthy, some kids were swimming in it

Then the rains came and everyone ran for shelter. I had brought a towel with me thinking that the splash area would be running so Georgia used this to stay dry.

We had a trek back to Rockerfella as we seemed to have missed this when we went past on the first day.

Au Bon Pain we knew was around the corner so stopped for a toilet trip and a coffee refill. Then made our way back to the hotel for around 6 where we finished off the last of the snacks we had plus some mini Easter eggs Jack brought with him for us.

Another great day. We went to church when we were in Texas and weer made to feel so welcome- it was very different to home but good.

You've got to love Baptist churches in America, don't you?

I am Catholic, but every time I've been to church with a Baptist friend I've been "greeted", "gifted" - they don't skimp on the hospitality.
