San Francisco to Los Angeles
So August 2020 we are planning a trip to San Francisco, then drive down to LA spend a few day's in both Universal and Disney.
My thoughts are 4 day's in SF, higher a car and drive down to LA, stop off on the way down and then spend 6-7 Day's in LA. Has anyone done this trip? So my question is where to stop and stay on the way down, best places to hotel in LA that's close to everything? |

I’d stop at Monterrey and/or Santa Barbara. Take your time along the PCH - it’s breathtaking.
For LA, We stayed in both Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. Santa Monica was a great base - loved it |

We were there last July/aug. One thing to note is that SB has a 3 day Spanish festival around then. It was on when we were there - we didn’t know before we arrived. It was really busy but lovely to see

On our trip last year we did flew into SFO and then...
1 night Silicon Valley area (visited the Googleplex and Apple Park the next day) 2 nights Monterrey 1 night Solvang 4 nights Glendale (for LA/Hollywood/Universal) 4 nights Disneyland Hotel 2 nights Hermosa Beach (chilling) 4 nights San Francisco We made a lot of this up as we went along. When we left Heathrow we only had a few of things booked up. We flew back from LA to SFO towards the end, something we booked a day or two before. it was a really good trip. Monterey is lovely, and we also stopped off at Santa Barbara for the day when we left Solvang en route to Glendale. |

Can I ask what you plan to see in LA. I'd say 6 hours is 5.59 hours too many it's the pits ! so unless you are going for something specific I'd spend more time on the PCH. Sadly for us our trip in 2017 had to be re routed due to the landslide BUT we still had a wonderful time. I'd definitely stay at Monterey, Morro Bay ( Not Pismo), Santa Barbara.

Ours?
Compared to some I've seen on here, it wasn't much at all! Essentially all we did was drive from San Francisco to LA - we didn't venture inland at all (we were considering Yosemite but the wild fires had closed much of it), nor down to San Diego. We had originally thought about driving back to San Francisco inland, but decided to dump the car and fly back instead. |
