Devasted for you.

We were refused a puppy from the local cat & dog home because we lived on a main road, despite the 6ft wall and gate that surrounded the property.

H's gran was refused an elderly house cat from the same rescue as she lived at the front of the estate just off the main road.

Seems crazy the reasons they give for declining then advertise like mad for people to adopt not shop when looking for a pet.

Don't let this put you off, there are plenty of rescue organisations looking for foster homes. Fingers crossed something comes up soon.

I know some dogs have a fascination with water but over the years I’ve had several cats 2 spaniels, a Dalmatian & a GSDxHusky none of which have gone in to the pond. My daughters Labrador cross ( who swims in any type of water) headed towards it when she last visited saw a fish & bolted in the other direction .
The sad thing is I could go & buy a puppy tomorrow without any issues

A couple I know got turned down to foster by a well known charity because they are in their 80s

They just asked at a couple different places and got matched with a young greyhound!
She had been kept outside and had a problem with her back legs because she'd never been on a walk.

The difference in that dog is amazing...she's sleek and glossy , can politely meet people and other dogs; and if she's off lead she'll come back if they shout "Edam" for her piece of cheese.

Because she's the subject of a court case they've had her more than three months so they'll be heartbroken when she goes but they have the satisfaction of knowing that they changed that dog's life.

So OP please try somewhere else.

As for the gate, my neighbours have on similar and they just cable tied some black plastic wrought iron on the bottom to fill the gap.

So sorry you had this experience OP. We struggled when looking to rescue a dog, reasons - we didn’t already have a dog, we had a cat, we live on a dog walking field (too many other dogs for an anxious dog) etc
This was despite my DH being retired at home all day.
So we got our Barnaby, he was almost like a rescue, he had been handed back to the breeder for god knows what reason at 17 weeks. Their loss our gain. He’s amazing with our cat! I hope that you have better luck elsewhere as others have said. Worlds gone mad.

We uses to be RSPCA foster carers. We did that for over 4 years. We fostered a 12yr old lab/collie cross who was a cruelty case. My old man i used to call him and was heart broken when that day finally came. We were thanked for having him for so long, we were told 6 monthd but he lived out his final years as a pampered pooch they said. We stopped after that. We would do it again if the time was right but currently we have 2 10yr old dogs and a 4 1/2 month old pup.

It has netting on it but they think that it may be a danger to any dog that wanted to explore it.
They were very nice in the message and have said that the pond may not be a problem if I wanted to adopt a specific dog who has already been fostered and assessed
Feel a bit gutted to be honest but at least I hadn’t paid out the £420 I was quoted to supply and fit a new gate
I know Spanish stray dogs UK , the charity my Bruno came from , are always looking for fosters for dogs already in the UK. Dogs that have come back to the charity for a variety of reasons. We have a wildlife pond, not a problem.

As I said I did rescue for years a pond was never an issue if it was properly netted , we had one and only one dog ever went near it but she’d swim in a puddle
I’d try another rescue friends foster ex racing greyhounds the quietest laziest things ever but stick to you like Velcro after spending so much time on there own usually

And the other day I overheard someone saying her mum was a Frenchie breeder and they have fifteen puppies at the moment. There's something very wrong when dogs are status symbols/fashion accessories.
