Taking Food into US

Hi All,

Sorry if this is a daft question but best to be safe than sorry.

We arrive very late and will be too much to stop at supermarket on the way to the villa.

We have made arrangements for some groceries to be at the villa thanks to the owner being extremely helpful.

Not wanting to arrive overloaded and taking teabags with us. I was going to take some porridge sachets as well. Am I right to assume there is no issue with that?
Is it just fresh produce like meat and dairy which is a no-no.

Appreciate any comments.

Regards

Pete

Not just fresh meat, but tinned and anything that contains meat. We once got stopped from taking Bisto gravy granules for our Daughter who was working at Epcot. Because the jar said they contained real meat juices, they took them off us along with tins of corned beef.
The dog at the airport gave us away! We thought we’d be okay as it wasn’t fresh meat.

As far as I'm concerned people can take anything from a jar of coffee up to a full Tesco monthly shop so please ignore any unhelpful advice such as "they have shops in Florida"

We stay in a villa and are regular visitors to Publix and Walmart but we do take our own coffee simply because we don't really like American brands. We always declare it and the Immigration Officer will nearly always say "You can buy that stuff here sir" which we follow with a polite smile.

PS

I don't know when you were last there but into MCO we haven't had a customs form to complete in the last couple of years but the IO may ask you.

Wow. 35 visits and 15+ years on the DIBB and I'm still learning.

You'll be telling me next that they have running water and colour TV as well. Sorry but that's a bridge too far

My Fiance and I are Canadians who live in Florida in the winter. Inthe last week he returned home to Canada for afew days. I asked him to bring back some Bisto and one other item that I was out of. I have not been able to find it here.
Today he is in the process of returning to Florida and is currently, as I wite thisin Detroit, Mi., USA awaiting his flight. He has just sent me an email. It reads, in part...

"I just finished a hour and half interview, "Frisked Twice" by TSA agents, and an explosive specialist doing tests on Bisto.

Something in my carry on luggage set off an alarm, needless to say I will be arriving in Ft. Myers without any Bisto/********** Sauce, as they confiscated it.≈ They had to do diagnostic explosive tests on the Bisto, as it was giving false positive results, do to some of its suspected contents.≈ I did get a little nervous when the explosive expert asked for an officer to company us to another area of TSA security, and a thought of spending a night it jail etc.≈

They could not explain the false positives, possibly a glitch in their materials, I do not know and I feel that they don't either.≈ At first I thought it was a random search for illegal drugs and was shocked when the expert said that it was for explosives."

Gratefully, he has been allowed to return to Florida
