Exactly. People with all sorts of political beliefs but they seemed honest and decent beliefs. Even if we didn’t agree with one side or the other at least MPs had character.

I liked listening to Margaret Beckett and always felt she was “left behind” somehow.

I'm really hopeful we can add Boris to that list by Wednesday. I'm happy to call him a "great politician" if the flip side of that is that he isn't PM

Hunt is not ideal but he certainly isn't in the same league as Boris when it comes to incompetence

Portillo gets better with age, if he'd waited 10 years before becoming an MP I'm sure he would have been PM

However in his political prime he was devisive and generally hated - no way he would have garnered enough support to make a leadership challenge (or more importantly win one)
