The Debenhams nearest me have always matched their online rate for me so I haven't bothered ordering in advance. Sometimes I just ask when i'm changing currency what the best rate they can give me is and I usually get something a little better than what they have on the board so it's always worth asking too wherever you go if you don't want to pre-order online

Pretty much all CCs charge a fee for taking out cash either in local or foreign currency. There are some exceptions like Halifax clarity where it is only interest, but most have transaction fees.

Transferring money from a CC to a currency card is essentially a cash withdrawal transaction.

Glad you got it sorted though.

ALWAYS book your money online for collection. even if you are stood in the foyer of the shop you want to buy from!
Which is fine if you want the minimum allowed for online orders - usually £500 or thereabouts. If you want less though it's not an option.

Only £50 at Tesco, which is where I usually get mine from. Only £50 from Asda too, and £100 from Sainsbury's and £200 for Debenhams. Plenty of places offering good rates with a lower order limit. I only ever buy around £200 worth at a time and have never taken any more than $1000 for a family of 4, so always use places that allow you to order online in advance without a minimum £500 order. Tesco is my preference as I have a Tesco credit card so there are no transaction charges for exchanges

I ordered some from Thomas Cook online and it was available for collection in the store straight away.

I went to the store 20 minutes after ordering and they had already made the order up for me and because of the amount I got they gave me a 12 month membership to the gourmet society and free insurance for my travel money.

The person who I dealt with instore also told me they have a rate match guarantee and will match any rate within 3 miles of the store
