Shelby Mustang

We were at the traffic lights on the 192 today and alongside us was a Mustang that had SHELBY in letters on the back.
It seemed to have very slightly raised suspension and was maybe 4+ years old. The bonnet had some raised areas as well.

Never seen one before, are they any good or worth a lot?

Sadly it had a bad dink on the rear nearside wheel arch

Just being curious.

I know older model Shelby Mustangs fetch in the $100,000 bracket, but they are rare and from the 60,s

Sounds like it was a GT500. 660bhp, rapid in a straight line till it hits a bend,.

If it was a real Shelby Mustang you saw, it’s an iconic brand developed by Carroll Shelby who died in 2012.
The mustangs are a lot more than just a hopped up Ford lots more done to them in addition to the usual engine tune up. For example if you specified a handling package you got a car with modified suspension to help it round the few bend on uS roads. The latest GT 350 or GT 500 has full independent suspension and handles more like European rear drive cars.
Basically a big step up from a Standard Mustang
The chances that you saw a real one are about 50/50 I’d say as they are most copied Mustang looks and copycat Shelby bodykits can easily be found.

A 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Supersnake sold for $1.3million !

Carroll Shelby was also involved with AC Cars in the development of the AC Cobra for the American market sold as a Shelby Cobra
Tom you must remember these cars?

The Shelby is my husbands all time favourite car!

That and original VW camper vans and Beatles.

Can’t afford the former but he’s managed the latter!

From your description most likely to be the Shelby made under license by Ford very similar in style and looks to a real Shelby one that they do themselves from their Las Vegas plant.
Without delving into added parts or knowing what paid at glance hard to distinguish.
The big ding could be give away as if real Shelby would assume owner would afford the repair.
Both are insane in straight line speed but until the newer added 10 speed auto and better suspension not great for out else.
As previously the old 60s and 70s ones are hugely rare and command high prices.
Hope your enjoying this different trip.

Thanks all.

PPM I do remember seeing pictures of the car you posted, imagine owning one of those

It looked in good condition apart from the bump but I left it standing! Probably because I turned right and he was waiting for the green light to go straight on.
