Marrying a US resident is a totally different scenario. You have to apply for a special visa to do that. I believe it is the K-1 visa. It's an all together different process with time restrictions once the visa is issued. I think the average processing is 6-10 months but you'd need to research that further.

My husband is from the UK and I'm from the US. We were married in London and applied for a spouse sponsored visa to move to the US. The process took just over a year.

Sorry...I didn't see the question so thanks Vanillapunch for the bump.

That is correct, you do not need your birth certificate. Your Passport is the identification that they will want.

No divorce papers are needed if you have been divorced longer than 6 months.

To be honest I always tell my couples what they will be asked for but follow that up with a comment to bring the other paperwork with you if it is handy (in other words don't go to the extreme to obtain certified copies, etc.) so that it gives you the peace of mind that you are looking for. It is a very quick and simple process on the day.

License question

Hi

Thanks in advance for your help . My brother in law is thinking of getting married whilst we are all in Florida in December. Both him and his future wife have been divorced for some years and neither of them have their decree absolutes. Will they need to get copies or what else can they do?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

If they have each been divorced six months (or longer) they will not need a decree. If their divorce date is less than six months they will need it.

Hi

Thank you very much for your really quick response
That's good news can you confirm if they need the date of the decree absolute.
Hopefully this will be my last stupid question...but I am blonde.

No worries, questions are what I'm here for so I'm happy to help. I'm having a lazy day at home today so browsing the net a bit. Ha!

As for your question, have a look at the marriage license application for Osceola County (Kissimmee) which is one of the most popular counties to apply in. They ech have their own application but questions are similar if not the same.

I do recommend that you fill out the application befor you go. It makes you aware of what they need to know as well as saving you time when you are there.
