UK holidays - soo expensive

In the faint hope that things will start to open up and we might get a short break away over the summer (just the 2 of us) I spent last night looking for holiday cottages for up to 7 nights - anytime between mid July and mid September.

OMG - some hotel rooms were over £300 a night - ok it was a very nice room but £300 a night

Holiday cottages and lodges were nearly all over £1000 for a week.

I then looked at TUI for a week in September - I can get a week in Greece for less than that! (Yes I know the likelihood of going is quite small but I live in hope!)

At those prices i'll be saving my money and putting it towards next years trip instead.

I'd like to do my bit for the UK tourism industry but by those prices it doesn't seem that they think they will struggle to get people to book!

Yeah - this is what I struggled with in the old world - cost and lack of a UK reliable climate.

If we could know we were getting roughly the weather we have had for last 6 weeks this time ever spring, we'd be all over a UK holiday.

I know some people are better at making the most of it than others, but for the price and your chill time, it doesn't represent value for money. Esp if prices soar in new world for Uk breaks...

We always found UK holidays to be expensive and price wise hotels/accomodation are much more basic than what you get for the same money abroad.

They're just cashing in on people, some have doubled their prices because they know we might not be able to fly abroad. It's wrong but people will still pay it because they'll be desperate for a holiday ☹️

I'd love to get away for a few days but I won't pay the costs that I'm seeing for a UK break. I was looking at UK holidays in July/August for the two of us. I found a lovely tree house on the Forest Holidays website but it was £900 for 3 nights! Center Parks was about £550 for 3 nights (their basic room) and Hoseasons/Haven were a bit less but still very expensive.

I got looking at short breaks to Lisbon, Amsterdam, Prague etc. for the end of August and found they were much more reasonable.

I don't agree, it has always been expensive to holiday here in the UK. They're not cashing in it's a case that we live in an expensive country.

I just looked at Centerparcs in Longford (Ireland) and it was €1049 for three nights in a basic lodge! Reduces to €749 at end of August as schools reopen here - who’d risk booking that?!

We only tend to go away in this country for short weekend breaks as we find anything else is very expensive.

We tend to do a weekend somewhere around the country a couple of times a year and we will usually stay in a premier inn to keep costs down.

The only time we have done longer is when we have used sun holidays to get a cheap break with haven.

I’d love to do forest holidays, cottages ect but we’ve never been able to justify the cost. We are two adults so we don’t go in school holidays.

Not this expensive, we always have a UK break and I've been looking at places for September.
Prices have rocketed.
Look yourself.

They’ve put their prices up. I’ve been tracking some as we’ve lost a UK break for our mini moon, they’ve shot up!
