I have one and it’s awesome.im a keen mountain biker and have been for 30 years and can honestly say my specialized turbo levo is the best bike I’ve ever owned (and I’ve owned a lot)I ride more often than on a normal bike and enjoy it more.the one thing I would say is buy it from a good cycle shop as warranty and customer service are really important with e-bikes I had a little problem with mine and my local dealer bikescene in Guisborough had me back on the bike the next day I’ve heard people who have bought online and have been without a bike for a month when they had an issue so check the warranty before buying. Don’t think I’ll own any more non e-bikes now I’ve owned an emtb.

Evening, funnily enough I was looking deep into this yesterday as my work are offering a bike scheme funding thing & thought an eBike would be a good idea to help with those hills.

You need to watch out & stick to the Govs rules on what a EAPC is (electrically assisted pedal cycles)

Biggest thing I have found is that the motor can't be more than 250W & not propel it more than 15.5mph,

A lot of the bikes that are getting mentioned here are way over that & are not allowed on normal cycle paths.

I'm unsure what you mean that many ebikes mentioned here are not allowed on cycle paths. My EMTB can go on any cycle path just as most ebikes can that meet the criteria you mention (no more than 250w and can't exceed 15.5mph). I'm not even aware of any ebikes that are sold by reputable companies that don't meet the UK criteria.

Checking Amazon there's loads of bikes over 250W but they don't say that they are technically motorbikes.mopeds & need registered, taxed, insured & a licence to ride them, I'm on specialised website just now and I can't find a 250w bike, they are all 400w+..

Its just to warn her that if its not a EAPC criteria bike as per the below, she could get into bother if stopped.

The 400+ is the size of the battery which determines how long you can ride for not the motor size which is limited to 250 watts my ebike has a 500 wh battery and a 250 watt motor.

I can’t recommend specialized e-bikes highly enough there warranty and after sales service are second to none.give anth at bikescene a ring he’ll help you. Emtb forums is the e-bike version of the dibb and just as friendly😀

l ride an E Bike and l love it and if it wasn't an E Bike l wouldn't get to half of the places that l go on my bike

what you have to look at is what you are going to do with the bike. we have had some rad recommendations for some bad ass bikes but do you want a 180mm travel full suspension Specialized Turbo Kenevo or a 150mm full sus turbo Levo to ride to the shops on and the answer to that is no

if you want to spend your life sending it down hard core single track and spend every weekend at bike park wales or Revolution Bike Park then yes spend the five to seven grand it would take to full sus hard core E-MTB but as soon as you try to ride to the shops on a tarmac road the gnarly downhill tyres will make it feel like you are trying to wade through treacle in Wellies

you said that you have a hybrid bike at the moment and you dont like road bikes/racing bikes so maybe a hybrid E-Bike would suit you just fine. something from the cube hybrid range. a scott sub cross or a Specialized Turbo Vado/como would fit the bill

I LOVE my e-bike, it’s a Scott E-Sub. I use it most days, for exercise and shopping..for exercise it’s on ‘eco’ for shopping with full panniers it’s on ‘turbo’ 😉
If you’re anywhere near Worcester the bike shop I bought mine from was really helpful...

I dont think I want a mountain bike.

We have an excellent cycle bath near us, an disused train track that is now a greenway.
I cycle 40/50km a 3 or 4 of times a week, however, as I live by the coast it can be very windy at times and would like an E bike to give a bit of assistance on a windy day.
Looking for recommendations please.
