Cancelling car hire booking with BA

Has anyone cancelled their car hire booking through British Airways? I've booked Avis car hire through British Airways and phoned to cancel as our flights with Virgin have now been cancelled.

BA said there's a 20% cancellation fee and I'll have to claim the 20% on my travel insurance. I was just wondering if this is what other people have been told by BA?

Just thought I'd update incase anyone is in a similar situation. I phoned BA again and this time was offered a voucher for the full amount which could be used for future car hire or flights or a refund minus the 20% cancellation fee.

We decided to get a refund as although we've booked a villa for next year we're not sure what we're doing about car hire or flights.

I requested the refund last Sunday and the money has already been credited back to my account
