Not doing Disney

Cos me and the 2 kids of 10 and 12 are on a pretty strict budget next Apr/May We are sacrificing WDW (apart from May 4th at HS and maybe a day in MK) and doing a bucket list swimming with Dolphin package at DC because the cost of that package which includes 2wks Seaworld and Aquatica AND Universal 3park 2 week tckt costs the same as just the Disney unlimited... In my mind Disney have priced families on a budget out the market, especially their poor dining offer (which we did at OKW in 2014). I have not been to DC, Seaworld or Aquatica and feel it much more cost effective. Any thoughts on buying single day tickets for WDW.

I agree that the Seaworld and Universal tickets are much more affordable than WDW! Definitely worth considering your options.

I guess the only issue with the single day WDW tickets is that they’re also expensive and so two days will set you back about half the price of the full 14 night ticket anyway so I’d likely be deciding if to do Disney fully or not at all from a value perspective.

That being said, I’ve done two Disney days (AK and MK) on a trip twice before and have enjoyed it and saved £200+ so it’s definitely doable but after having the 14 day ticket on our last trip I think I’d struggle with just the two days knowing I could’ve got so much more for a bit extra.

I agree with Orlando amber. The cost of a single day ticket when we last went in November 2019 was $115 each IIRC so I would either forgo Disney completely if you want two days or look for a multi day ticket option that gives more entry.

We always do exactly as you are on this occasion.. D.C. ultimates and Universals. They represent much better value and in any case, if all prices were equal, they are the two that we would buy out of preference against Disney ones.

I agree that Disney have out priced themselves and mostly under the guise of COVID. Have started booking for May/June next year and for the first time not exclusively on Disney for 3 weeks. We have booked a few days in Universal but if Disney continue to increase prices and reduce benefits we will only be using them as a base to explore more of the Orlando area.

I don't want to overdo parks this time round, boys not big queue fans, I have done Disney lots and would do it every year but sacrifices have to be made. Agree prices per day are steep but I would not make most out of 2wk unlimited. 😊

We are also thinking that if the Disney experience remains so pared back we will do a primarily Universal / Seaworld etc. trip instead. I would not buy two day tickets to Disney because the cost is well on the way to a 14 day ticket, however we would think about an After Hours ticket as we have done these before and you can get so much more packed in than you can on a whole day.

We are always on a tight budget and feel that Disney is becoming out if reach. We try to save in other ways for example if we are doing DC we will buy the tickets over black Friday weekend as the prices are significantly cheaper 👍🏻

I think with boys of that age, you’re doing the right thing. My kids will be 16 & 14 on our next trip and would happily forego Disney, as would my husband so they only go because I want to. They get far more out of universal and D.C./SW/Aquatica. We have a day ticket to AK booked which cost £413, and we have a non expiration ticket left from 2019 for HS so we will do that aswell. We may get a day ticked to MK or do the Halloween after hour or party depending on what’s on offer. But even factoring in the cost of another day ticket then that is no where near the £1700 it costs for a 14 day ultimate Disney ticket. We have universal 3 park tickets and D.C. ultimate non swim tickets as we’ve done the swim before.

I bought our day ticket through the MDE app, you can also purchase them on undercover tourist, or Orlando attractions but we did it through Disney as it linked straight away and we got our days booked in.
