Central London to Heathrow T5

Hi all,

We’ve bitten the bullet and booked a trip to Dubai in November. Air miles flights and cancellable hotel so as risk free as possible!

Anyway we have a concert at the O2 the night before we fly and I’m trying to work out whether we’re better to stay at T5 or stay in central London and travel to the airport the next morning. Flight is not til 12.30pm. Preference I think is T5 so we don’t have to drag luggage across London. We could check in the day before and then head into London for the day.

What would you do?

I would definitely get to the airport and stay there
Far less worry about complications in the morning

Bear in mind IF everything remains the same BA do Overnight CHeck In from 1600 to 2100 for flights departing the following day up to 1300. That migh be useful for you.

the only hotel actually at T5 is the Sofitel and that is normally expensive

all other T5 hotels are off airport and will involve a taxi or a bus ride from T5

if you are staying at T5 and have the time then go to the T5 tube station get the Piccadilly line to green park and then change to the jubilee line to north Greenwich and the same trains back to T5

l would also happily stay in London but for a 12.30 flight you would be traveling through London during morning rush hour if that is even a thing any more

We would almost always stay at the airport but one year we stayed at the Hilton hotel in Paddington Station so we could have a night out in London, and then got the train to Heathrow in the morning (which took about the same time as the Hoppa does from some of the hotels to the terminals … but I’m not a fan of the Hoppa!)

Yes we usually stay at the Sofitel, it’s a nice hotel and convenient. Just a bit worried about getting to Paddington before the last train.

That might be a good compromise. At least we only have to get the train then.

I think the Sofitel is currently closed as it is being used as a quarantine hotel.

It was really easy to get from the Paddington Hilton to the train and then the terminal - I definitely preferred it to the Hoppa!

If you go with the Paddington hotel option pre book your Heathrow Express tickets as soon as possible, they start at £5.50 when booked online you have to select the day but they're good for any time train on that day.

The £5.50 fares have to be booked at least 90 days in advance.
