Visa Waiver Advice Needed

Hi, if someone attended the US embassy and as a result has a visa waiver on their passport due to a spent conviction do they still need to apply for an ESTA?

Thank you in advance.

A visa waiver is not a document, it is a programme that allows people to apply for an ESTA.
So you post is a bit confusing. Do you mean there is a visa in the passport?

I suspect what they have in their passport is a visa. If it is still valid as far as I know that trumps the ESTA and the esta isn't required

My DH has a visa for business travel to the USA, but travels on an ESTA for our family holidays. Immigration officers always seems to understand and be happy with that arrangement.

If you have a visa for the correct purpose of your stay then no you don’t need the visa waiver (ESTA) as well
