My granddaughter is 3, and this is the first year it’s been magical... I put a nice jingly bell on the lawn, then as we go outside to feed the birds their Christmas dinner, made a big deal of this bell, with red velvet ribbon has fallen off of Santa’s sleigh. 🎅🏻

I know they’re always proven to be wrong but to me I didn’t know if the films sow the seeds of doubt in a way? Like would a child have any reason to doubt that he exists until they see a film (say, Miracle on 34th Street) and start to question it? maybe I overthink it!

How do you get around films that suggest he isn’t true? Do the references go over children’s heads?

Honestly I've found it really doesn't have to be that big a thing, my daughter has Santa, but from the time she was little she understood that some people had Santa because they believed in him, and some people didn't (her best friends in early primary school were from practising Muslim families so they didn't have Santa, they got presents at other times of the year).

What time does he come to your house? How does he know they aren’t going to wake up when he delivers everything? Where does he even manage to hide gifts before the big day?

Erm he's Santa, he's magic, he knows all this stuff . Santa traditionally comes to ours in the middle of the night when my daughter has been asleep for at least a couple of hours. She's never been a light sleeper and I've always had to wake her up on Christmas morning to see if Santa has been . I've hidden pressies all over the place over the years.

Is Santa that you go to visit at shopping centres etc the real one? (I know in a lot of films they suggest that ‘mall’ Santa’s are different.)

no, he's a Santa's helper, because Santa is busy at the North Pole.

Does he still bring gifts for older children who are aware of the secrets if there are younger children in the household?

Absolutely he does - my DD is now 17 and she still gets pressies from Santa (and I did too when I lived at home with my mum and dad as a young adult).

The mind boggles!
Its an extra dimension for sure when you bring Santa and young children into the mix for Christmas .

Films aren't really a problem, most suggest he is real and some show conversion of non believers. Actually, they are helpful as some explain how he is able to deliver all the presents in one night.

We put on the NORAD Santa tracker on the computer so they can see where Santa actually is before they go to bed.

Mince pies, carrots, Baileys etc get put out at night and consumed while we are all asleep.

The biggest issue is other children. Last year my 8 year old questioned whether Santa was real as other children in her class said "it's really your parents". Grrr. She ignores the other kids though and still believes!
