Team Bricki's Super Secret Magical Wedding and Honeymoon Adventure- Day 15 Sat 18th May- Volcano Bay
Apologies today isnt very picture heavy.
Today was Volcano Bay day which Brett was really looking forward to as it looked amazing. The plans for after the water park had changed many times, from Tiffins after we had to cancel last week, to cocktails and food on City Walk, to going back and doing what we missed at Islands of Adventure. We dismissed anything to do with Universal as we would be dishevelled from the waterpark. We finally settled on late afternoon at Disney Springs to split some QS credits, a couple of cocktails and then get the bus to Jellyrolls to watch the duelling pianos. In the morning i went to the Mara again to get a couple of breakfast sandwiches to take to Volcano Bay. They smelt really strong in the bag in the Uber that i was worried the driver would try and charge us for eating in his car. We arrived at City Walk just before 10.00am and got a shuttle bus straight away to the park. We didnt get many pictures here as we left our phones in the locker all morning. We got a Tapu Tapu return time for the Krakatau Aquacoaster which was 25 minutes away. Taniwha Tubes was a ride now so we went over to that and picked the green slide. The slides are more intense here than at Disney but this was a lot of fun as we could ride together. Nothing else was a ride now so we had to just wander around until it was time for our slot. I have mixed feelings about the Tapu Tapu system- in some respects it is great as you dont have to queue but in other ways it is restrictive as you cant do anything else. It should be like the Disney fastpass system so you can ride shorter wait rides while waiting for your slot. We rode the coaster and it was amazing, really fast like a proper rollercoaster. I didnt like the water spraying in my face constantly though as it irritated my contact lenses. Overall we loved it though. Brett got a return time of 10 minutes for the Punga Racers and i waited at the end for him on the loungers. I dont like mat rides where you lay on your stomach. Brett was gone for about 20 minutes so you do still have to queue for the slides. He loved this and i could hear him coming down the slide before i could see him. We went to the fast lazy river next where you all have to wear life jackets. Brett held me the whole time as there was a lot of people in the water. It was a lot of fun and we went round it a few times. Brett said he wanted to do the Puihi which was now a ride now so we got in the queue for this. We were paired up with a father and young son for this, which i hate doing, it feels wierd when you are in swimwear and barefoot. It was really intense and i swore a lot (thank goodness the young child was Spanish) but we had a good laugh. Brett said he was happy to call it a day now even though it was only 1.00pm as he had done what he wanted. I asked him if Volcano Bay was as good as he hoped and he said the slides were amazing but there was something lacking in the atmosphere and he preferred Typhoon Lagoon. I think it is because it was busier than Disney. We got an Uber back to AKL and got showered and changed for Disney Springs. Brett wanted to wear his new Levi shirt so of course i had to match him. Just to make us even more matching, we wore our wedding Toms. The plan first was food and to see what the fuss was all about at Blaze. I was surprised to see it empty on a Saturday afternoon but it must have been fluke timing as the queue was huge when we got to the cashier. We ordered the BBQ chicken, a side of garlic knots and a diet coke (no cocktails here just wine or beer). The guy behind us was clearly drunk and ordered every topping they did. It was folding really bad when they tried to put it in the oven. Bless him he thought he was hilarious. We sat outside as it was another beautiful day and tucked into the pizza. It was delicious, i loved the goats cheese and bbq sauce. The side was also gorgeous. I would have said i can totally understand why everyone raves about this place until later in the evening when we tried the Boardwalk Pizza window and that blew Blaze out of the water. Next stop was cocktails and Brett wanted to try somewhere that wasnt the standard Disney menu that we had already had a few times. I knew just the place- Jock Lindsays Hanger Bar. The theming of this place is really cool from the decor to the menu to the glasses. We grabbed two seats at the bar and ordered Mojito for me and Cool Headed Monkey for Brett. They came in the coolest glasses, its a shame you cant buy these! They were delicious but quite strong so we ordered the Air Pirates Pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. I love the way Americans socialise, sit at the bar and have a drink, order food there, another drink, more food. The pretzel was amazing but i think the NBC one just edged it. We decided to have one more and Brett got Wrong Island Iced Tea and i got Air Pirates Mule. They were both really nice. Brett gave up his seat to stand at the side of me so a couple could sit together at the bar. All of a sudden he felt like he was being pushed and turned round to see a man in a wheelchair wanting to park where Brett was stood. I was gobsmacked as i thought this was so rude! Brett wouldnt have hesitated to move for the guy but to just barge him out of the way was so ignorant. We were ready for some Jellyrolls fun now so we paid the cheque. We found the service in here a bit lacking if i'm honest, they just seemed to concentrate on the Americans. They got a reasonable tip and in hindsight we shouldnt have bothered as they barely spoke to us. The food and drinks are fantastic though so i wouldnt hesitate to go back. We got the bus to the Boardwalk and walked over to Jellyrolls around 7.30pm. We went earlier so we could get a seat. We paid the $15 each cover charge and found a seat at the high tables near to the bar. I ordered the Sex on the Beach and it was huge, it was a double cocktail. Brett got the Captains Rum and was gutted that it was nowhere near as big as mine- it tasted good though. The Manager came over with a wedding cake shot for us too which i thought was really lovely. We also sampled a helping of the popcorn from the machine. Jellyrolls was so much fun, we stayed here until about 11.15pm. There was such a wide variety of songs played so everyone was catered for. Both sets of piano players were awesome and we sang along all night. The atmosphere changed as the night went on as the songs got louder and more interactive and it was such a good night. They played every decade and genre as well as throwing a bit of Disney in there. We tried to get our wedding song played but i think you needed to be tipping in the region of $20 to guarantee your song gets played quickly. I fancied trying the famous Boardwalk Pizza so we headed over before it closed and got two pizzas- sausage and mushroom and bacon and mushroom. These came with a choice of sides but we just got crisps and diet cokes. I completely forgot to take pictures but as mentioned they were better than Blaze. You can get one pizza and two sides for one QS credit or a large pizza and four sides for two QS credits- another great use of dining plan! We got an Uber back with our pizzas and ate them in bed watching American TV. A slightly slower paced day but a late night- we had a lot of fun again.

Volcano Bay is great but it’s not the best when it’s really busy. A nice afternoon at DS, I think your Blaze pizza looks lush. Jellyrolls sounds like a fun evening.
