Uk city break ideas
Hi!
We’re doing Florida next year so just want a couple of UK breaks to have something to do over this summer. We like doing touristy things like bus tours and museums etc and having lots for the girls to do (both 13). Don’t fancy a show. Recently we’ve done London, York, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast and Liverpool. I was considering Stratford Upon Avon as I know there’ll be Shakespeare stuff but DH would need more than that to interest him. Any ideas? |

Stratford is lovely. There’s Shakespeares birthplace,New Place, Halls Croft and Holy Trinity Church where he’s buried. Also, Anne Hathaway’s cottage. Plenty of shops, and places to eat, and, of course, two theatres.

We have recently visited Oxford for the second time. Didn’t get everything done first time. Visited a couple of National trust properties, Duxford air museum which took two full days, the American war cemetery, Oxford itself including evensong in one of the colleges to hear the choir sing. The shops were nice too although that’s not really our idea of fun.

Thanks for the ideas, will have to do some research! We live in Cumbria so like to do city things for a break rather than country walks etc.
Yeah the girls loved it, they went with Guides too and I’ve been recently with friends. The girls loved the camera obscura and the castle, they didn’t want to do the dungeon but I really enjoyed it. |

Another vote for Oxford. A beautiful place and lots to see. We went to Cambridge last summer and really enjoyed it too. Top tip - Book your trip on the river Cam before you go. Can highly recommend Duxford air museum too.
