DVLA code
Do Alamo require the DVLA code? I’ve hired 3 cars in the last 6 months over here and only been asked for it once. If it makes any difference I’m hiring a minibus, and I’ve had D1 since passing my test.

Per coggie a DVLA code has never been required for Fl motor hire. Nor is an IDP (International Driving Permit) if your dl is UK issued, an IDP simply translates your English dl to, err, English

You don't need any DVLA code for any hire - I hire regularly in US, Spain, Ireland, Portugal. Never been asked for it.
It is another case of ridiculously planned out system for data protection, but in this case it was so bad, it worked in the customers favour, as the hire companies realised their business couldn't function if they insisted on it, so basically abandoned all pretence of checking for previous convictions.

Even in the U.K. when I’ve hired from Avis I’ve never been asked for it. When I handed one to the rep she binned it without looking. She advised that by signing their invoice I had agreed to then requesting info from DVLA if needed.
Whether this was true or not I don’t know or care! Another government waste of money Edited at 09:11 AM. |

Not much to add really. No IDP required if D/L in English. No DVLA code needed.
Obviously no paper part of D/L required since it was made obsolete in June 2015 (except in NI ). Actually you can still use the old paper licence to hire a car if you don't have the plastic card but you have to carry your passport around all the time when driving for ID purposes. Been reading and contributing to car posts for 15 years. If any Dibber had been asked for any of these documents and posted on here the DIBB would have been in meltdown. Mick

The only time I've been asked for the code, home or abroad, when was I had a loan car from Enterprise following an insurance claim. They actually did it on some iPad type thing they brought with them when they delivered the car.
