Soaps - same storylines ahh

Why do soaps have very similar storylines all at the same time.

Spoiler alert.

Coronation Street Roy goes to his half brothers place and a girl said - he does not live there and shut the door.

Emmerdale (cannot remember her name) just found out her mum is alive and goes to her house and the sister tells her she is dead - shuts the door and she is still alive.

Do they have the same writers?

I’ve always said this about soaps.
It’s surprising how many similar storylines run parallel to each other..
I thought it was only me that noticed it,but it happens time & time again.
It does grate on my nerves.
