Thanks for the update! I've been waiting to see what the new system is. Can you report back if you use standby for group 1 too if you get a chance please?

Yes, at the mo but they're just switching from paper to digital so it may change. From the post above though I think if group 1 has FP the return time is shorter than if group 1 uses standby. Which would make sense as FP queue is quicker. It's similar I think in principal to DAS return times.
I think though this will be problematic for us, as there's one adult and two little kids having to do B2B rides doesn't really work for us (them). I guess we will wait and see.

Thanks for the update.

It sounds like what I thought it would be. The two people in group 2 each get a "rider switch" fastpass which starts after group 1 has waited and lasts for 1 hour.

Yes, that's correct.

The 4 riders split into two groups - group 1 and group 2. The people in Group 2 look after the non-rider, get their Magicbands/tickets scanned and each receive an additional RS fastpass. Group 1 can then use 2 normal fastpasses to enter the fastpass queue. Afterwards Group 2 use the 2 new RS fastpasses to enter the fastpass queue.

Rider switch isn't/wasn't designed so a groups plus non riders can use 6 fastpass instead of 3 between them which is what people are saying is happening. The new system is supposed to stop this glitch.

Dimple's post above describes the new system.

The only differences with the new system is that it's now digital (paper tickets are no longer given out) and it has a 1 hour return window (instead of 1 day or 1 month return window). That's it. A family of 4 can still fastpass a ride using only 2 fastpasses plus Rider Switch with this new system - as Dimple states. That's how it was always designed and how it is still designed.

The new system is aimed at stopping people from selling their rider switch paper tickets on eBay. Disney doesn't like other people making money from their systems.

Rider Switch is/was primarily aimed at those using the regular queue and is meant to reduce the wait time of families having to switch. It compensates for the inconvenience of having to split up a family due having a young child who can't ride. It is meant to allow the second half of the family (group 2) to use the fastpass queue without having to use a prebooked fastpass so that the family as a whole doesn't have to wait in the standby queue twice.

By the way, I've noticed Disney has updated it's webpage regarding Rider Switch to say that up to 3 people can use the Rider Switch ticket to skip the regular queue and enter via the fastpass entrance:

"If the person in Party 2 waited alone with the child, he or she may bring up to 2 other Guests back to ride the attraction with him or her. Please note that only 3 Guests are allowed per Rider Switch Pass".

It used to say that he/she could only bring up to 1 other Guest back and that only 2 Guests were allowed per RS pass. It's now been updated to be consistent with what used to be printed on the old RS paper passes.
