How long do Magic Bands work for?

When we visit Florida next year we have a week booked in a villa and the three nights onsite at BLT. We will be visiting Disney before our BLT stay and wondered if our old Magic Bands will still work or if the batteries will be flat. The bands will be 3 years old and are still activated on MDE.

Even if the batteries have gone flat in your MagicBands, they should still work fine for FP+ purposes. The only thing that stops working when the battery goes flat is long-range RFID functions.

My MagicBand is about 5 years old and still works fine for FP+.

That’s great, thank you.

This is accurate, but whilst I agree it may not seem like you're losing out on much, it can actually make a difference for the UK traveller.
Disney makes us buy memory maker as part of the UK ticket, which only gives maximal value if you have a magic band that is using the long range pick up for ride photos and videos. I know that you can collect pictures at the touch points, but I'm not sure if all rides that take pictures have them.
If the odd picture is of no interest then you can quite happily manage with older ones.

Dinosaur no longer has touch point photo options, I don't think sdmt does either.

Thanks, we're not bother about ride photos, so long as it works for entrance, FP+ and PhotoPass we're fine.
