Yeah, just top up in Sterling when it suits you and then you can transfer to dollars or whatever currency when the rate is good, or I believe you can just leave in gbp and it’ll convert at time of sale with today’s rate, it’s reduced slightly at weekends. I’ve not transferred back to my bank but I have used the card here no problem

Another vote for Post Office card. DD uses one and it has "wallets" on it so you can have more than one currency on it. You can also move currencies to different wallets. So eg she's going to Dubai soon and New Zealand. She has both currencies on her card. When she leaves Dubai she will put that currency into the New Zealand $ wallet and it will get converted. She swears by it and wouldn't have any other card.
