Mobile "Free" car hire and 3rd party insurance question?

I am currently following a thread on another Orlando forum ( sorry ) where the OP has stated they had booked a package holiday with "free" car and only covers very basic insurance. They have purchased their own annual insurance which covers rental cars worldwide and also covers all relevant insurances required for Orlando at a cost of £69 (yes, sixty nine pounds). Having arrived at Alamo MCO they had no issues and were given the car booked with no hassle and only the usual credit card deposit hold.

Why is this not more commonly used?
Why did Alamo not make them take their insurance?

Hi. This pops up a lot and in fact is being discussed already a few threads down from this one!

Most Americans hire cars and use their own personal Insurance hence the companies out there are very used to inspecting documents to ensure their asset is covered. Lets be honest they don't care about an injured 3rd person only their rental car and its earning potential plus its current value.

There are UK Brokers who cover CDW and SLI at a fraction of the cost of using for example Alamo's own. Some of these brokers though want you to pay for any damage and reclaim off them - not all but some do. I couldn't afford a new car on my credit card!

So, we each have to make our own choices in life. I wouldn't touch these Brokers with a bargepole and I know most on this Forum wouldn't either.

Best of luck in your decision making but one note of caution. You will be driving in the most litigation happy Countries in the World!

Thanks Tom, I wouldn't dream of taking one of these deals and I have in fact booked my car with Alamo via VH with the Gold package as I always do. I'm just curious ax to why others would take such a risk, but as you say it's their choice.

Yes the price is attractive, friends of ours took advantage and had a bump, they had to
return to Orlando to fight the case,as the other driver disputed liablity,in the hope they
would not show up in court

It's like anything else - if it looks too good to be true it probably is. I personally would never take the chance and would prefer to just pay for the full package direct with the car hire company.
