Huge PITA but before doing anything I would recommend thoroughly researching all travel options available to you.
I would be astonished if at this last date you cant get it substantially cheaper than originally paid and although there may be some compromise it will all work out just fine. We used to buy BA flights when they came out in the sure and certain knowledge that they would mess around with them later on and we would have right to free refund We used to wait until United flights came down in price and then book them and exercise BA refund. Never once failed. If it had we could easily have lived with BA flights which are always miles cheaper than United and doing it this way meant our holiday flights were assured one way or the other. Having said that I wouldn't fly other than Edinburgh - Newark - Orlando by choice now. Definitely IMO the best option for people from this part of the country.

Thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts. It transpired that virgin wanted us all to make our way to Edinburgh! They wanted to give us £380 in total for our troubles! They then pushed us for an answer. So we ended up cancelling the holiday with them but were due a full refund. So we managed to get dates just a few dates away from the original plan with Ocean Florida flying from Glasgow to Gatwick then Tampa and our villa is an 1.5 hours away from Tampa Airport. The main thing is the holiday is back on just with a few adjustments no thanks to Virgin Holidays Braehead. They eventually offered to put us on their direct flight from Glasgow to Orlando at a cost of £850 per person. Wowzers. Thanks again.

If virgin are paying, send the bags in a taxi and jump on the train to Edinburgh...for a 50 min journey I'd rather do that than re-book...good luck
