Decided to go for comfort over fashion and bought some Skechers Flex this week... light as a feather and the memory foam inner means they're so comfortable.

I prefer running shoes type as they are obviously designed for long distance comfort. Plus no show socks as mentioned before. As for brand, it's personal choice and try a couple of pairs of different makes to see what you like.
