Seat booking with Avios points
I have just seen that you can pay to reserve seats with British airways using Avios points. Does anybody know how many points are needed per seat?
I can't seem to see the option when pricing up the flights so don't know if it is only an option after booking flights? Thanks |

How do I pay for seat selection using my Avios?
BA Executive Club members can use their Avios to pay or part-pay for their preferred seat on British Airways operated flights in 'Manage My Booking' on the British Airways website, or by calling a British Airways contact centre. But the option to pay in Avios, and the amount of points you need to pay for your seat, does NOT appear until you reach the final payment page. BA says the Avios payable will depend on the cabin class, route selected and the number of people on the booking, and you'll be able to use Avios to pay for new seat bookings, even if you booked the flight itself prior to today. You won't be able to use Avios as payment for seat selection on group bookings of more than nine passengers.

Thanks, that's what I had read. But I have gone all the way through to the final payment page to make a booking and there is no option to pay by Avios points for the seats so I didn't know if I had to make the booking without selecting seats and then log in to manage my booking and choose seats then if I'd be able to pay with avios points.

Yes, you book the flights first - then you can go into the confirmed booking to choose seats and pay with points.
You do have to go almost all the way through the seat selection pages too before the avios points options come up - and you can pay wholly in avios or part cash/part avios in a number of combinations. I did this last week for flights next year, ended up paying cash as decided it wasn’t the best use of avios for me. |

Brilliant thank you.
Do you happen to remember how many points you needed to book seats? |

I was looking at 2 business class seats and from memory it was 32,000ish Avios in total, or £200 cash. I know some seats in the CW cabin cost more than others, so I’m sure the price is different across different seats and different cabins.

That sounds about right, a redemption value of approx 0.6p per Avios. Whatever the cash price is for the seats in question will basically be converted at this rate to arrive at the Avios price. Not great value, but if you have a number of Avios that are insufficient to do a lot else with, it’s better than nothing.

£75 per person for exit seats in world traveller - for the 3 of us we could opt to pay for 40,000 avios.
