Virgin 747- Economy Row 37?
I've had a search through previous threads and row 37 (and 46) come up a few times as recommended places to sit. However in most cases it is when four are travelling and its the middle four that are recommended.
It's never normally much of an issue for us as we tend to book late and have to sit where we can (i.e. near the back). However, even though we have booked late again this time the plane appears fairly empty and there are loads of seats available. So now we have a decent choice I've no idea where to sit! Just looking for standard economy seats on the Virgin 747 out of LGW for three adults. Would anyone still recommend row 37 but the three to the side (do people stand directly behind you?) so is this only a good row if you get the centre four? There are threes still available near the first galley / Stairs in 27 , 28 , 29 etc. but no idea what these are like or should we pick something near the back where currently there are hardly any seats taken and hope it is a quiet flight so we can spread out (does this happen) ? The bubble is full so paying extra isn't an option. Ideas? Recommendations? Thanks. |

We have booked the middle 4 on row 37, so would also be interested in this. We are hoping the seats will recline, without having to worry about the person behind! We also thought about the three and 1, but unsure if people waited for the toilet behind you? Would also be interested in dibbers experience as not flown virgin before!

If they’re anything like the same rows on a BA 747 (in front of the galley & toilets) then yes they will recline. We had these when we fly BA to Miami & back this summer and they were great seats, recliners nicely with no one behind us, and never had a problem with people congregating around the loos. We sat in row 53 on the way back, which is the same and the kids reclined with no bother and slept the whole way home. Would recommended!

Yes at times people will stand behind you if you're on the rows of 3. Especially when theyre doing trolley service because they will be waiting to get past.

Sat in both row of 3 & centre 4 in row 37. I usually go for these as no-one is behind you. Only problem we have found is sometimes theres only 1 choice of meal left as they seem to get to you last.

In all honesty the non upgraded economy seats are much of a muchness. There are a whole host of reasons where a persons perfectly normal behaviour can rub you up if you're not in the mood, and one of these can quickly render a seat that looks good on paper to a nightmare. That said a few seats do offer little advantages over others, such as nobody behind you, or early in the meal cycle, not near toilets etc. It's really a case of whether any of the little things disproportionally affect you, selecting on that and then hoping that you don't happen to get sat in the vicinity of a genuinely inconsiderate passenger.
For me the back row of a section does offer a marginal advantage as nobody is prodding your seat, but the biggest single factor is to be sat next to somebody that in someway spoils it for you. I've sat next to some lovely people, but also sat next to one that made a flight home an 8 hour nightmare. It's also the one area where you can have a degree of control, by selecting such that you won't be sat next to a stranger. As a family of 3 in economy, I'd take a row of 3 every single time I could, back row or no back row. Beyond that as far forward as possible so you are into a shorter immigration queue, and I prefer the right side so I can have the shade up without the sun blinding me. When we were a family of 3, and the bubble seats were free, we used to go up there, partly because you get off early, but especially because the shelf/cupboard down the side meant I could have my stuff handy without having to have the tray table down, which did make it materially more comfortable. With a family of 4 now, we stay downstairs and in the middle row. Sorry kids, you wanting to look out of the window is overridden by me not wanting to sit next to a stinker. We have the middle 4 of row 46 out , and 37 home for next year. 37 was unavailable on the way out, and had all of the back rows been unavailable, I'd have simply picked the first full row of 4.

We quite like row 37 due to you having no one behind us, as when we've had a 'bad' flight it has been almost always due to people behind. As there are only 2 of us we prefer two of the middle four. But I take on board the points OPs make, it is ultimately down to personal choice.
