Hi all,

Do I need to take any proof that my esta has been accepted e.g. a print out or anything?

Thanks

Danny

You don't NEED to but it is recommended on their site. I usually just have a copy on my phone, many take a printout.

I printed off 2 copies. One for us to take and one to be kept filled at home in case we ever lost the first copy before the 2 years are up. Hope thats a help 😊

I'd print a copy or screenshot it. We had slight issues with Thomas Cook, they were being arsey, saying we needed it, but I was like... Ive flown to America loads of times, i know you dont. They said if the computers are down their end, there will be huge issues, I had a copy anyway. They were just being awkward for no reason though

Thanks guys I'm going to print copies of them and keep them just in case. Better safe than sorry for the sake of one minute of printing I guess.

thanks guys!

As said, we always take a copy. Doesn't add any weight to your bag

Exactly correct response... if printing is a 1 minute job then why not. It's not going to do any harm and just might help massively.

If on the other hand printing involves a significant cost, or effort that you could do without making, then don't bother as the chances are very high that you won't need a copy.

I think the airline is duty bound to return you if you don't have the correct paperwork, which obviously is a pain for them. I understand them wanting to see the printed copy for a first timer or someone that looks like they might not know so they can avoid this risk, but when you clearly know exactly what the rules are then they should treat you with a little more respect.

I had an issue last December with my esta. I had used it 7/8 times already and am a regular traveller to USA.

The airline (Delta) couldn't link it to my passport in Aberdeen when I checked in. Odd. Check in desk asked for a copy. I showed her it. She couldn't link it at all though and told me to go through but that there was an issue. Got to the gate, they couldn't board me! As they couldn't link it, and they knew I was flying to the USA, the computer wouldn't let them "board me". 30 minutes and 3 managers seeing my printed esta later, they told me just to go through.

Arrived in Amsterdam. Same thing. Another 30 minutes later in the line for boarding, they eventually got it to link.

Each check in person said that they wouldn't have accepted a screenshot/photo in my case and they only let me board each flight because I had a print out.

So for the sake of 1 minute printing, please do it.

But then a few months later in May, I had ZERO issues with the same esta?! Madness.
Thankfully now I've got a new esta.
