I used to be the biggest advocate for TC, and they do have benefits in terms of security and budgeting.
However in the last few years I have switched to using Halifax Clarity CC, purely for better exchange rate, and a nominal amount of dollars.
TC are still generally accepted though, although sometimes require a more experienced cashier to know how to put them through the till.
