What's it like at Christmas?

Hey Dibbers!

We're in the throes of planning for our July 2014 trip but got to chatting this morning and it occurred to me that our trip after that could be Christmas 2015. Have never contemplated going anywhere at Christmas before as I believe it should be spent with family but this would be DISNEY Christmas! My two favourite things in the world with my 3 favourite people. I can't think of anything better. However, I'm not sure how to deal with the massive guilt trip that I will get from my family about taking the kids away (mine are the youngest grandkids) Does anyone else feel guilty doing it? And how do you get over it?

And also, at thread title says... what's it like? Weather etc? Best to stay onsite or off? Is it dead expensive compared to the summer?

We went this Chrustmas just gone, was really dubious but we had an amazing time just the four of us - our kids are 12 and 8 and we had do much fun - we are booked again for Christmas next year - the only downside is how busy it is but it didnt bother us as we planned in advance - there's nothing more magical that a Disney Christmas x

Oh and the weather was beautiful though that's give and take as we did Dec 2010 and it was really cold - price wise I can't compare with summer as we only ever go at Christmas time albeit this was the first Christmas Day etc x

THAT'S what I wanted to hear! Ours will be 12 and 8 next July when we go and will be 13 and just 10 if we go Christmas 2015.

Can I ask what you were dubious about? Was it leaving family behind? Was it really stressful getting organised to go?xx

We went in 2008 22/12-6/1 and loved it. We had glorious weather. We stayed onsite which was the easiest thing for our group. We did hire a car and do SW, US, IOA as well but the main holiday days we stayed onsite and made use of EMH.
I can't speak for the guilt side of it as we all went, me & my daughters, my mum & dad and my sister and her husband - so everyone that would be there at home Christmas was there together.

My mum won't even entertain getting on a plane so that's a complete non-starter I think it would be just the 4 of us. I do have a massive family so parents wouldn't be on their own so I guess that eases the guilt a bit

Have been 5 times at Xmas and the things I would note are:
1 it's very busy and I mean busy to the point where parks close to new visitors so be aware
2 weather is variable last Xmas it was really nice but have been when you have had to scrape ice from the car!
3 the parks are gorgeous and the decorations are fantastic it's a real joy
4 it's the most expensive time of year to book for more expensive than summer so you may need to save a little harder
4 as for the guilt when we go we have a Xmas day with the family beforehand so we exchange presents have Xmas dinner etc this appeases the guilt a little but once I get there it's all forgotten as we have such a fantastic time

We would go every Xmas if we could as we enjoy it so much hope you book as you will enjoy it so much good luck hope this helps

It was the Father Christmas thing for me - we ended up having a Christmassy Day at home the Sunday before we went so the boys could have their presents off family - I told my little one that FC had agreed to deliver early and then we did the whole Christmas Day thing as we had bought bits from the shops to open on the day, we had a private villa and there was a tree and decs so it was fab ... We went out for Christmas dinner at the Peabody Hotel and it was spectacular - I really can recommend it x
