Getting around Vegas without a car- advice?
Hi, I would appreciate any advice on travelling around, seeing the strip, getting to shopping centres and other hotels, etc. What are you favourite types of transport and why?
Also, how often are the types of transport and the sort of costs please? Thanks. |

Easy. Read my sticky at the top of the forum for full info?
But, quickly, The Deuce (a double decker bus service) goes pretty much where you need it to, casino wise (on The Strip and Downtown). Taxis are plentiful from casinos too, and not hugely expensive. Vegas is one of the easiest cities to get around without a car.

To be honest, we didn't really use much public transport in Vegas and walked quite alot of places! When we did use public transport we used taxi's or the monorail type thing, sorry can't remember the proper name but there was a stop at Excalibur and Treasure Island and many other places!
Don't get me wrong you can't walk the whole strip but we quite enjoyed walking down and in and out of places.

We went to Vegas in september and didn't use public transport to get around, we just walked. It does take a some time, and probably isn't easy in the day when its very hot but we managed it during the evening

The only public transport we used during our trip in March was the monorail (very handy as it starts in the MGM where we were staying)think a one way ticket was $5 but you can get cheaper rates for longer periods of use.Apart from that we found it easier to just walk. We did intend using the deuce but they were always very full so did,nt bother.
I suppose it depends on how fit you are and what time of year you are going as would'nt fancy walking the strip in the summer months.

We used a mix of monorail, Deuce and walking to get up and down the strip - had a hire car but left it well alone after seeing all the lanes on the strip, wouldn't have dared to drive it!
Think a 24 hour ticket on the Deuce cost $5 and went as far as Fremont Street so well worth the money. We found walking tough going through the day (was hotter than average when we were there) but enjoyed walking the strip when cooler at night.

We hired a car for the whole duration of our Vegas trip, we used the car twice! .. both times to go and visit the outlet mall. We walked up and down the stip on foot it was exhausting but we didnt like sitting on the Deuce stuck in traffic lol

I have been to Vegas 4 times now, and never wanted a car. I always hire a car elsewhere but think the time spent parking and walking to and from the carpark negates the time saved by driving.
As every hotel has a taxi rank at the front entrance, its really easy to use taxis to get around, I didnt find it massively expensive to use these either. What we generally do is work our way throughout the week down the strip hotels, starting at Mandalay Bay - so would get a taxi there and then walk back through each hotel/attraction to our destination hotel which is always Bellagio. there are trams and buses but we generally dont bother with those although they are readily available. If you dont get out and walk the strip, there would be so much you'd miss out on. Personally I would find it a pain to park in one hotel, travel through several more, then need to troll back through these to get back to the car. If you think you would be staying in one place for the day, then maybe a car would work out better for you.
