West Coast Trip, Your Thoughts Please!
Hi all,
I would like to share my plans with you all so far... I know its a busy schedule but i honestly would love all your comments, suggestions, corrections, anything anyone would like to add would be gratefully received, We have never been to the West Coast before, we dont mind driving over there at all (i actually hate flying!) So here goes... Fly to San Francisco from London Stay in Fisherman's Wharf area for 3 nights - Alcatraz / Segway Tour / Golden Gate Bridge / Sightseeing etc... Drive to Yosemite - Stay 1 Night in Yosemite (staying at the Wawona Hotel if possible) just sightseeing here. Drive or Fly to Vegas (anyone got any thoughts comments on this as to whats best?) staying in Luxor for 4 Nights (would like to be in Vegas Mon-Thurs if possible) - Gran Canyon helicopter tour / Sightseeing / Shows / Shopping etc. Drive or Fly to LA 4 Nights in Anaheim Sheraton - Universal Park / Disney 2 days / Sightseeing 3 Nights in San Diego (Bahia Resort Hotel or Humphery's Half Moon preferably) - RESTING! (oh and the Zoo & Seaworld) Flying from LA back to London, Is this any good? Thanks!

Looks good to me. I would maybe consider 2 nights in Yosemite - it is truely spectacular. We drove from Vegas to Yosemite and it took us all day (early start and late finish too), but it was a great drive - we went through Death Valley which was great.

Looks good to me ,1 night in Yosemite was enough for me.I saw all i needed to see just driving through the park.Depends if you want to do any activities.
If it was me though I would drive from Yosemite to Vegas and then on to San Diego and finish in LA. |

Looks good to me. I would drive the whole route - once you get to Yosemite you would waste such alot of time driving back to SF to catch a flight to Las Vegas. Consider 2 days in Yosemite you would get to see so much more and the drive to LV through Death Valley is well worth it. Then drive to San Deigo and back up the coast to LA.
Also when in LV consider a drive out to Hoove Dam.

Sounds like a great trip you have planned, we did something simular this september and had a fantastic time.
We stayed in the Sheraton Anaheim and loved it, we then drove onto Vegas and wouldn't hesitate to do the drive again, it was pretty easy. San Diego Zoo was fantastic. Theres a trip report link in my sig if you want to see any pics, have a read |

Thank you for all your replies so far! Keep em coming!
I think we will defiantly drive all the way now from your replies and maybe do LA last, it would make more sense! Sarah, I did read all your trip reports! I was addicted to them! They were great, gave me loads of fab ideas of things to do, thank you x

Looks good, if you can manage it, an extra night in San Francisco and San Diego would save you rushing to see everything.

Sounds great - almost exactly the same as my plans except different hotels and we're not going to San Diego and hoping to spend a night at the Grand Canyon.
As the only driver (and with kids in the car) I really don't like the thought of driving from Yosemite to Las Vegas via Death Valley though so we will probably fly there from Oakland (Southwest @$100 each). |
