Northern Cyprus (as opposed to South)

I lived in Cyprus (Dhekelia) for 2 years. I have returned since and had great vacations in Fig tree bay as well as Pissouri. I love that island, but fancy seeing the bits that I have missed.

So August 2020 will be Kyrenia. I am ok for flights to Larnaca and a hire car to both move me to Kyrenia and bring me back in order to fly home.

I am happy about hiring a Villa and have so far looked at the following things (will be hiring a car in the North).
1. Turtle hatching on the beach.
2. Kyrenia castle.
3. Bellapais Monastary.
4. Famagusta and a walk to the border to see the derelict hotels.
5. Nicosia Turkish side.
6. Great food.

Now the questions.
1. With a hire car, how difficult is it to travel South through the Pegamos checkpoint?
2. I need a comprehensive cover note that I purchase at the border? How much?
3. Can you reccomend a hire car company in the North that permits travel to the South?
4. Which area would you seek to stay in, bearing in mind what I am looking to do?
5. Do you have a personal villa reccomendation?
6. I am told that the quality of Beach (as opposed to customer) surpasses that of Nissi/Makronisos is this true?
7. Do you have any further reccomend as to what we should do?

Any other tips or advice will be very gratefully received.

As far as I am aware you can't hire a car in the South to take to the North. We tried a couple of years ago but couldn't find a company.

We are looking the other way because of this. That is why we are using a taxi/hire company to Chauffeur us up to Kyrenia from Larnaca Int (and back).
We will be taking up a car hire in Kyrenia for the fortnight but may wish to visit sites in the South such as Kolossi, Kurion and Nissi Beach.

Sorry for the lack of clarity.

We are going back to NC again this year. We love it. We hire a villa on the west of Kyrenia which seems to have more restaurants etc. We hire a car but never take it over the border. If you look at the Kyrenia Forum on trip advisor I think you will find your question answered. Most people I know drive to near the border then walk across for a day. I have to say every year we say we will do it but we go in August and its just too hot to wander around a city. Salamis ruins are worth a visit as is the coastal village of Bogaz. Near to our villa is a private beach called Escape which is nice for a change from the villa pool. The exchange rate is very favourable too.

Thankyou for that interesting info. I will be researching your information when I get to work tonight.. (oops, shouldn't say that).
