Being a bit Goofy
|
At first he was feeling really hurt and rejected and wanted to forget the whole thing. He can really lack in self confidence sometimes, but then blows me away with his confidence and maturity at other times. The more he talked about it, the more he felt it was an injustice. He has now come to the conclusion that he wants to take it further.
He spent his work experience shadowing a solicitor last week, so I think he’s feeling up up to the challenge. He has a bit of a thing about liars, and he’s pretty cross that his department manager told a porky or two to justify himself. |

Just a quick update on this. My son appealed this decision with the store. He said they hadn’t followed their own procedures and that he was unsupported and lacked training and feedback. The manager who told him he was finished held the meeting with another manager and I sat in. Son stood up for himself and pointed out a few things that he felt were untrue, and was quite vocal about the lack of feedback and training.
End result was manager conceded that there was bad communication on both their parts and he was going to reinstate him. I think he should be proud of himself. He spoke very calmly but made some very valid points. He said it’s going to be a bit awkward there now, but at least he’s got the measure of them. And he can always look for other work while he’s there. I’m a bit cross about the whole thing, especially the naughty little fibs the manager told but it’s been a valuable lesson for my son. |

Well done !
I'm really glad your son decided to appeal and not just "let it go" as some advised. Just because they are young doesn't mean youngsters should be treated badly. A good life lesson that you don't have to let people walk all over you. Even if he had lost the appeal he'd have felt he'd at least had his say . |

That is great news, well done to your son for standing up for himself, you should be very proud.
Like you say, he can always look for something else whilst he is still earning, and then if something good turns up at least he leaves when he is ready,

Well done for saying something. I had a similar experience a very long time and I took it to a tribunal for my own peace of mind. I did not want my job back though but did get all money owed and holiday pay they refused before I left. They actually went bust a few months later so suspect letting me go was to do with that but knocked my confidence for a little while. I think your son will look for another job now anyway but at least it will be on his terms.

Give your son a pat on the back from me. This whole experience has turned out to be a positive for him in that he managed to turn a toxic situation around to his own benefit.
When right is on your side you really have nothing to lose certainly not your own integrity. Excellent result. |

OP. I missed your update post. I am very pleased for your Son. Well done to both of you especially him. It must have been daunting to stand there and put his case across.
I am sure he will go far in his chosen career with such a can do attitude.

Well done, you must be so proud of your son standing up for himself like that, even it it was a different outcome he went in and told them what he thought of them.
My son turns 17 next week and I've always taught mine to stand up for what they believe in, I hope my son would have done the same as yours in this position. I hope he is finally treated fairly.
